When we moved in August, I sold my set of end tables and coffee table. It was a pretty set, but they had been with me since I graduated college. And, that was almost 10 years ago. So, I told myself that I would find something when we got moved, settled, and had a little extra cash.
Well, I am a fan of the facebook yard sale groups. If you search around and have patience, you can get some nice things. Our solid wood kitchen table only cost $200.00 and it is well worth triple that amount. I am a bargain hunter and pretty proud of it!
So, I was searching my new town’s facebook yard sale groups, not intending on purchasing anything, when I ran across a solid wood end table and coffee table. We only need one end table because our living room isn’t very big. They even had extra storage at the bottom of both and the coffee table had two sides that raised to reveal hidden compartments for extra storage. I could get both of them for $100.00. SCORE!!! I made the “Sold” comment and noticed the same lady posted a desk for $40.00. If you have ever searched for a desk, you know that they are not cheap. I really wasn’t looking for a desk, but thought about it for a minute and determined it would look awesome in Kate’s room.
When I search for things, I always have the remodeling mindset. The piece may not be what I want presently, but what could it look like with a little TLC? The desk was made of solid wood and the perfect size. So, I commented “Sold” on it as well. And, I must admit, I was pretty proud of my steal.
Here is the picture that was posted on the facebook yard sale group.
We went to pick everything up and the desk was even better in person.
We placed it in the garage until we had the extra time to devote to it. Remember, my house has been a chaotic mess with all of the moving.
November hit and we had things pretty well taken care of… You know, everything is still not the way I want it, but it is getting there. A little at a time!
So, I purchased 5 bottles of Valspar Riviera Dune spray paint and let it work it’s magic. I am a huge fan of spray paint (when I can use it) because it usually sprays evenly.
And, here are some before, during, and after pictures…
I had all intentions of replacing the hardware, but after deciding the rubbed bronze knobs and pulls added to the vintage look of the desk (the look I was going for), I decided they were perfect.
I had planned on giving my daughter my office chair and purchasing myself a new one, but we ran into this hot pink chair at Wal-Mart on clearance for $6.00 and we couldn’t pass it up.
She loves her desk and we do too! It matches her other furniture perfectly!
Stay tuned tomorrow when I will share the rest of Kate’s room!
