Last Thursday, I shared the beginning of our pantry/spice cabinet makeover. I listed some things that were next on my agenda for this project at the bottom of the post. Here is the list again and my progress on each…
1. Cleaning out the actual spices (again) & moving some of the items to my cup cabinet
This was the first thing on my list Saturday morning. I got the whole cabinet cleaned out and moved. Instead of making this a storage container cabinet, I decided to make it Kate’s cabinet. All of her cups, bowls, plates, and lids are now housed in this cabinet.
2. Cleaning out the pantry (again)
After several cleanings, I have STILL let my pantry get this bad.I have never shown a picture of the alcohol in my pantry, but I am today.Let it be known that this alcohol has been sitting in the same spot for a longtime. We are not drinkers, but have it up there for special occasions. Therefore, it is just in the way. So, we decided to change that.
This cabinet is right above our microwave. Most of these items get used on adaily basis, so the location wasn’t good for them. We decided to move all of this tothe top shelf of the pantry and the alcohol to this cabinet.Much better! We were even able to move all of the wine glasses from thedining room to this cabinet. And, if you notice, there isn’t nearly as many alcohol bottles. That is because several of them were empty and we didn’t even know it. That shows you how much we touch the bottles!
This looks so much better. I plan on saving up to purchase some nice food containers too.The recipes and cookbooks are now on the top shelf. The bottom of the pantry.I am determined NOT to make this a catch-all area. I am also going to put someadditional storage bins here, so the chip baskets aren’t on the floor.I purchased these stacking baskets at Wal-Mart. They cost $8.97 for two.
3. Purchasing the pantry door rack
After a lot of searching (aka price comparing) and going to Lowes, I decided to purchase the rack from Home Depot (my future brother-in-law would be so proud). The reason is because I had a gift card that had not been used from 3 years ago. I didn’t even know how much was on it. So, after using the gift card, it was actually cheaper than purchasing it from any other store.
