For some reason, I am a person that likes to know how other bloggers spend their day. I love to get a glimpse of their normal everyday life. What time do they wake up? Do they drink coffee? When do they work on their blog posts? What time do they go to bed? You get my drift.
So, I thought I would share my schedule with y’all. In the past, I have been asked how I have time in my day to create blog posts. And, here is my little secret… I don’t really watch televison! I know, shocking! But, I have gotten to where I am not into watching television. Of course, I have certain shows that I can’t miss week to week, like The Blacklist, but I do not have many of those. And, we DVR them. I enjoy spending my time working on this blog rather than watching TV (insert smile).
So, enough with my rambling… Here is a look at how The Morgans spend a typical weekday!
5:30am: Good Morning!
My first alarm goes off at 5:25 am. I usually get up immediately, go start my bath water, and lay back down until my second alarm goes off (5:35am). Once my second alarm goes off, out of the bed and into the bathtub I go. I am one of those people that takes two baths a day. I can’t help it!
While I am taking my bath, my husband is getting our morning coffee ready to go. And, here is the funny thing, we didn’t plan this out. Our morning routine has kinda fallen into place without any type of conversation.
Then, I finish my bath, get a cup of coffee, and start my hair and makeup routine. This is usually around 5:50 am. Am I the only one that doesn’t find this fun?!?! I really wish I could throw on some clothes and go to work still looking put together, but it doesn’t work that way.
6:30am: My daughter rolls out of bed.
At around 6:30am, we start waking my daughter up. Let me just say, this is my least favorite thing about our mornings. She is not a morning person! And, she is very grumpy. Some days even result in an attitude adjustment, if you know what I mean.
Her daddy is usually the one that gets her out of bed because she is a daddy’s girl. While he is getting her up and ready, I am getting all of the essentials ready to go.
- Fixing Kate and Nathan’s lunch.
- Fixing my lunch.
- Getting our drinks ready to go… We both have to carry a Tervis glass full of tea or flavored water.
- Getting Kate’s daily folder and backpack ready.
- Getting my work bag ready to go.
- Cleaning up the kitchen a little… this may include emptying and reloading the dishwasher.
6:40am: Rise and shine for Derrick.
Our little man usually gets up around 6:40am. Right now, he is usually all smiles when he rounds the corner in the morning. I hope I have one child that likes mornings. Fingers crossed!
My husband is the one that gets Derrick ready as well. I am usually still working on the morning essentials at this time.
6:50am: Finish up.
Usually by around 6:50am, we are brushing our teeth, using the bathroom, and getting the last things done for the morning.
Side note: Derrick is standing on a bucket turned upside down. And, he is supposed to be the passive one. Oops!!!
7:00am: Out the door & on our way to school.
Some mornings we are doing good and get out the door early. And, then, there are those days where we are lucky to get out the door 5 minutes late. Remember, my daughter is not a morning person. But, our goal is 7:00 sharp.
We all go three different ways in the morning. Three? You read that correctly. My husband takes my son, which is at one end of town. Then, he heads to work at an opposite end. I take my daughter to primary school (a totally different direction that the boys go), which is on my way to work. I love the fact that the primary school has early morning care. So, I can drop Kate off anytime after 6:30 am without having to pay any money. We are very blessed with that service the school offers.
7:20am on Tuesdays only: Morning Cafeteria Duty @ School.
Tuesdays are my duty days. Anyone that knows about the education system knows that teachers have extra duties. I am blessed at my new school because the only duty I have is cafeteria duty from 7:20 to 7:50 on Tuesday mornings.
7:55am: School Begins.
At 7:55am, my school day officially begins. I teach 7th grade keyboarding.
3:30pm: School is out & I wait for my daughter to get dropped off the bus. Then, off to run errands.
Our school day ends at 3:00pm, but it takes until 3:30 to get all of our students on the bus and gone. Then, my daughter’s bus arrives. Another amazing service the school offers is the shuttle bus. There is a bus that picks up and drops off teachers’ and other staff members’ children from one school to another.
After Kate arrives, we head out the school door and start our errands. Sometimes, this involves going to the post office or bank. Some days, we don’t have any errands. It just depends on the time of the month and what things need to get done.
Between 4:15 & 4:30pm: Pick up Derrick at daycare.
Derrick was not happy getting in the car today. This is very unusual. He is usually all smiles. But, today, he didn’t get to leave daycare the way he wanted. I guess he wanted to walk. So, he refused to get in his carseat without a fight.
5:00pm: Home & getting Supper Prepared.
We usually arrive at home between 4:30 and 5:00 depending on how many errands we had to run that day. When we walk through the door, I usually get the kids a small snack, go through the mail, and start supper. Sometimes, we eat out and I don’t have to worry about cooking, which is awesome.
Derrick wanted to eat applesauce by himself… on to floor… with two spoons.
Today was a no cook day! Woohoo!!! Zaxby’s was on the menu.
I am a multi-tasker! While I am cooking supper, I am usually emptying and refilling the dishwasher, doing laundry, straightening up the house, and possibly checking my Internet accounts. All of this can be done in or around the kitchen.
The kids usually play and watch cartoons while I cook supper. And, you know, have a few fights along the way. We have gotten to that stage now!
6:00pm: Kate does her homework, I work on blog posts, & both kiddos get baths.
Yes, my kindergartener has homework sometimes. It isn’t every night, but a couple of nights a week she either has a book to read or a math worksheet. We will sit down together at the kitchen table and work on her homework together.
Once her homework is done, I work on blog posts. This could include:
- Taking photos and editing them
- Writing a blog post or two
- Writing down topics in my calendar
- Preparing for the next week’s posts
- Making a list of items that I need to purchase or make for upcoming posts
While I am getting some of these things done, my husband is usually giving the kids a bath. If I don’t have the kitchen to clean up or blog posts to work on, then I will give the baths. We work together on this nightly task.
7:00pm: Mr. Derrick says nite-nite. TV time and relaxing for the rest of the family.
We try our best to have Derrick in bed around 7:00. Sometimes, it is more like 7:15 or 7:30, but for the most part, he is in there around 7:00. I know that may seem early, but it is perfect for our little man. Usually, around 6:00, he starts getting fussy and cranky. That is when most of the arguments between him and his sister begin. And, some days there is a lot of crying.
When he gets in bed at 7:00, he is such a happy little boy in the mornings. If not, like yesterday morning, he wakes up fussy, crying, and not cooperative at all.
After Derrick goes to bed, we sit around and watch our shows that we have recorded or my husband will watch football. Kate and I don’t really act interested in that and we may choose to watch Netflix on the iPad or watch videos on YouTube. Yes, I have gotten into the YouTube scene lately. Mostly organizing, planning, and beauty videos. If you have any awesome YouTube stations that I need to check out, feel free to leave a comment below. I am always up for new stations to add to my list.
8:00pm: Kate heads to bed, parents get baths, & I finish working on some blog to-dos.
This is a tough one, but we like for Kate to be in bed at 8:00. You know how I said she is not a morning person?!?! Well, she doesn’t like to go to bed early either. And, she doesn’t like to get in the bed by herself. So, it is a struggle to get her in bed before us, but if we turn the tv on and the light off, she will eventually fall asleep without us in there.
Yes, my daughter still sleeps in our room. We are trying to move her to her room, but she is in that “I’m scared of the dark” stage. And, I really can’t say anything because I am a huge scaredy cat too. I have always had this fear of someone breaking into the house in the middle of the night and me waking up with them standing over me. When I lived with my mom, I even locked my bedroom door.
So, I think I have passed the fear onto her (insert frown).
Once we have her semi-asleep, I will finish up any blog to-dos if there are any left after working on them at 6:00.
Between 9:00 and 10:00pm: Nathan and I head to bed.
I like to be in bed around 9:30pm. Since I have to get up so early in the morning, this bedtime gives me a good amount of sleep. I am one of those individuals that has to get a good night’s sleep. I can’t function on no-sleep.
Nathan usually rolls into bed around 10:00. He usually watches some football, does some football note-taking, or plays a game on his phone. Yes, my husband even game plans and schemes outside of football season. His brain never stops thinking of football. I can’t really complain because my mind is always thinking about organizing, decorating, and this little blog of mine.
And, that, my friends, is how The Morgans spend a typical weekday! Then, we will get up the next morning and do it all over again.
** The photos were taken throughout the day on Thursday, November 13!
