Today, I am going to talk about networking and social media. I can not stress enough how important these two things are when you are building a blog and trying to maintain it.
Tip #1 – Choose your Social Media Outlets
There are a ton of social media outlets that you can choose to partake in. But, let it be known that you do not have to use every single one. I recommend finding a few that you love and putting all of your effort into them. Choosing too many will become overwhelming and you will end up spreading yourself thin.
My favorite social media outlets are Instagram and Pinterest, but I still use Facebook because my readers love it. So, those are the three that I devote my time updating. I attempted Twitter, but it just wasn’t the right fit for me and Snapchat is something I haven’t done any research on.
Overall, my favorite is Instagram and I have my settings to where if I make a post there, I can also select it to post on Facebook. Very thankful that Instagram has that option. But, I am a huge picture person, so I enjoy searching and browsing other people’s photos. I spend a majority of my time there.
I love Pinterest for different reasons. It is my place to collect all of my ideas, recipes, and inspiration. I can’t tell you how many times I have needed ideas for supper and went to my “Dinner Dishes” board to look through my pinned recipes.
Tip #2 – Link Up
Many blogs host what are linky parties where they open up the floor for other blogs to post links to their projects. Some of the parties are themed and some are not. Find linky parties and post every time they come around. Some blogs do them monthly and some are weekly.
This is a way to draw attention to your blog. Link up your best posts and others will check them out. But, don’t forget to check out other people’s link ups too. And, add comments. More on that in a little bit.
These are a few of the linky parties that I participate in…

When: Every Tuesday
hosted by: A Bowl Full of Lemons
Tip #3 – Communicate
Communication is very important in the blogging world! You need to visit other people’s blogs, leave comments when you love something, ask questions, or just leave a two thumbs up type of comment. But, there is a fine line. Don’t appear to be a stalker and don’t appear to be needy. Begging someone to come visit your blog is not a good way to get traffic. It may even turn people off.
Your communcation needs to be genuine, not a ploy to create more followers or readers. If you do it right, you will start developing friendships with fellow bloggers and readers. It is one of the things I love most about blogging.
I have met so many people and I love that aspect of it.
Also, communicate with readers that leave you comments and messages. If they have enough time to sit down and read what you have to say, then you need to have some time to tell them thank you or acknowledge their efforts. It DOES make a difference.
I have sat on both sides of that fence and it is a little disheartening when you continuously attempt to communicate with a blogger and they never attempt to respond.
So, the bottom line is communicate with fellow bloggers and your readers, but make sure you are being real!
