Welcome to my last Blogging Basics post. I hope I have covered all of the topics that you were interested in seeing. If not, please don’t hesitate to email me or leave a comment below.
Today’s post may be the last one in this series, but that doesn’t mean it is the least important. I actually think it is one of the most important aspects of blogging and it is definitely how I have been able to continuously improve my blog.
If I don’t know how to do something, I do some research…
If I need some ideas on how to improve an area of my blog, I do some research…
If I just need some helpful tips or tricks, I do some research…
Overall, I do a lot of research! Sometimes, I will even print out the research, highlight the important points, and place it in a folder for future reference.
So, don’t ever think that your blog has grown enough that research isn’t necessary. We can always learn more no matter how successful we are.
I wanted to share some of the most helpful research I have collected so far:
I get inspiration from everything! Magazines… Walking through a store… Fellow bloggers… Fellow YouTubers… My family… and, the list goes on. I highly recommend finding inspiration from other bloggers that have been able to grow their blog successfully and who are writing the kind of content that you want to create. How did they grow their blog? How do they layout their blog? What is their writing style? What do their photos look like? What makes their space special?
Side note: Do not copy their work! You want to create your own content. It is never a good idea to copy another blogger’s work.
Since beginning this blog almost 4 years ago, I have followed several awesome ladies that continue to inspire me everyday. I use their posts, excitement, and feedback as a push to keep moving my blog forward. And, you know I have to share those ladies with you. If you haven’t subscribed to their blogs and/or YouTube channels, you definitely should.
I have one big inspirational blogger that I have looked up to since the very beginning of this journey and that is Jen from iheart organizing. She was the first blogger that I found when I was trying to determine what a blog actually was and I knew at that moment that I wanted my blog to have the same feeling and concepts that hers had.
This is a whole new arena for me! If you would have asked me a year ago if I would ever start a YouTube channel my answer would have been a, “No!” with some laughter thrown in. But, I ate those words and feelings.
Even though I didn’t aspire to be a YouTuber, I have been a fan and have recently developed a nice list of subscriptions.
My inspirational YouTubers include:
Alejandra Costello from Home Organizing by Alejandra.tv…
Kristina from Pretty Shiny Sparkly…
Jennifer from Organized Jen…
All of these women have things in common with me and watching their videos makes me happy. They motivate me to keep pushing my blog and now my YouTube channel. I would be lying if I said I never got discouraged. It actually happens about once a week. I second-guess all of my efforts with blogging because I feel like I should be farther than I am.
I may think I wrote a great post, check my Google Analytics, and my numbers do not represent my feelings. Or, I open up my social media and see that I have lost readers. Both types of situations give me a sense of failure.
It is a long battle to feel like you have made it in this arena. Some people make it a lot faster than others. I think we are our own worst critic, or I am at least.
Don’t let these things force you to quit. If you feel like you need to give up at blogging, but you still love it, then don’t give up. We all have days where we don’t feel like we are reaching others. Just know your worth and check out your inspirational blogs. That is definitely what I do.
