Welcome to my fifth closet challenge post. If you missed the first 4 posts, please feel free to visit the links below:
Today is all about how I store my bottoms and dresses. Just like my shoes and tops, I have a few different ways I store them. But, this storage is a little less complex than the prior two. I have two ways I store my dresses and bottoms: hang or fold!
All of my dressy pants, skirts, and dresses get hung up on a black Joy Mangano Huggable Hanger (just like my casual and dressy tops). You can find the same hanger, but in a different brand at Bed Bath and Beyond, Wal-Mart, or many other retail locations. You will see a different version in my kids’ rooms.
But, here is where it gets a little different…
I fold all of my dresses in half over the pant hangers. Why? My closet doesn’t have a bar that is high enough to let my dresses hang without touching the floor. So, I decided it would be easiest to fold them over a hanger. I actually started doing this over a year ago at my old house. It doesn’t hurt the dress at all and works well for me.
I also fold my skirts over a pant hanger as well. Here is a little secret… I am not a skirt person! Almost every skirt I own is a maxi skirt, so it can be easily folded over a hanger. I have always been self conscious of my legs and back part (if you know what I mean). So, I guess I have programmed myself to look away from skirts. I like maxi skirts if they aren’t clingy! I know, I am a little picky when it comes to skirts. Hence the reason I do not own many.
I have a nice single built-in white shelving unit in the back of my closet. It looks like it may be ClosetMaid or a similar brand. You will get it see it all next week (insert smile). It has approximately 5 narrow shelves that I was using for sweaters. Well, that didn’t work out too well because my sweaters kept falling over, which was driving me insane. So, now, it stores bottoms. I have one shelf for each of the following:
- lounge pants
So, what sits on the last shelf?
Sweatshirts that I mentioned I fold last week. Then, underneath the rack, I store the small white box that contains my tank tops.
Bottoms & Dresses Cleanout
These two sections had been weeded out pretty well before we moved, so there wasn’t a lot to go through. But, I did find 3 pairs of capris and 3 t-shirts to add to my Goodwill pile.
Over the weekend, my husband and I made a trip to Goodwill and delivered 7 huge bags. I enjoy being able to organize my house and help others in need at the same time. It is definitely a win-win situation for my household.
Tomorrow (hopefully, my mom is visiting this afternoon), you will get a view of my new coat closet.
And, next week, you will FINALLY get to see my side of our master bedroom closet. I am still in shock that I have never showed my closet on this blog. It is definitely nothing special, but I have used every ounce of space on my side, which I am pretty excited about.
