Welcome to my sixth closet challenge post. If you missed the first 5 posts, please feel free to visit the links below:
I know this is my second post of the week on the topic, but I couldn’t help myself. I got our coat closet organized this weekend and wanted to share it this week. Now, just like every other closet in our household, we are using every ounce of space.
To help organize this space, I used two Sterilite deep ultra baskets in white that I already had…
…and, a silver 3-tier silver wire rack that I purchased at Lowe’s for $19.98. They come in black and silver. I counted and we have 7 of these bad boys floating around our household. I LOVE them!!!
Now, before I show our coat closet, I must admit that there isn’t a single coat in this closet. Or, at least that is getting used. This closet is located right outside my daughter’s bedroom and on the opposite end from our bedroom, so we felt our actually closets would be a better place to keep those things. We have enough space in our closets to keep our light jackets and heavy coats.
We wanted to use this closet for things that we didn’t want to put in the attic, things we utilize but not always daily, or things that just needed a space for a short amount of time.
Excuse the lighting in these photos. It is hard to get natural light when dealing with a space that doesn’t have any windows and that is very closed in.
On the door, I placed a Command hook and my Lisa Frost banners hang there. You know those had to get a special place.
On the top shelf, the left basket holds extra hangers and the right basket holds the vacuum attachments. I intend on placing labels on the front of the baskets, which is why you see a Velcro square on them. The bumper pad and crib skirt in the middle was Derrick’s. I am holding onto it in case my sister needs it. She is 23 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. Eek!!!
First, you will see Kate’s costumes in the middle of the pile. My daughter is a dressing up queen. She would rather ask for costumes than toys for birthdays and Christmas. She had too many for her bedroom closet, so placing them in here left her more space for actual clothes.
Next, you see baby clothes hanging on the left. Those are a combination of Kate’s baby clothes and mine. My mom kept all of the nice coats and dresses that I wore as an infant. And, now, I have kept all of Kate’s too.
And, the right is actually pageant dresses of mine. Yes, my parents put me in a couple of hometown pageants in Arkansas when I was a toddler. And, of course, my mom kept all of the dresses. She passed them down to me.
That is baby Kristin in November 1984. I was almost 3-years-old. And, that dress is hanging in the coat closet.
So, why are the clothes not on identical hangers?
Well, I have left all of the clothes that my mom gave me on their original hangers.
The 3-tier rack holds our air mattress and pump, Bella’s carrier, and some board games. Ok, there is only one board game in this picture. I have to place the others in the closet when my kiddos aren’t looking. They like to drag out all of the pieces to the games.
