Happy Monday, friends! I have been excited about this post and video ever since I decided to create it a few months ago. A couple of months ago, I was trying to decide if I wanted to purchase a new Erin Condren carry-all clutch for the 2016-2017 school year or go with the Thirty-One Gifts zipper pouch. I have seen online that some people love the zipper pouch. So, I did the first thing I always do when I am trying to make a decision about a purchase, I went online. I tried to find some comparison videos or blog posts over the two and my search came up short. I think I may’ve found one legit blog post and zero videos. At that point, I decided I would purchase them both and create a comparison for you guys.
Of course, I sat down and made an outline of the things I would want to know about the two before doing any filming. Things like material, price, and above all, how much each one will hold.
The Erin Condren carry-all clutch is made of a stretchy neoprene fabric. The Thirty-One Gifts zipper pouch is made of a canvas material and doesn’t stretch. Both have really nice zippers.
The EC clutch comes in two different sizes. A larger size that fits notebooks like the teacher planner and a smaller size that fits the life planner. For this post, I am only focusing on the smaller size.
The carry-all clutch measures 11″ x 9″. And, the zipper pouch measures 12.25″ x 9″. So, the zipper pouch is approximately 1.25″ longer (left to right) than the carry-all clutch.
Both of these pouches can be customized. The Thirty-One Gifts zipper pouch can be embroidered with text, an icon, or both. The Erin Condren carry-all clutch comes with the monogram made into the fabric. It doesn’t have any raised detailing.
Both pouches can be purchased with or without being customized. The Good to Go collection is Erin Condren’s basic products. They are not customized and can be shipped immediately. The price of those clutches cost $28. The customized clutches cost $32.
The basic Thirty-One Gifts zipper pouch costs $15. You can get it embroidered with text or an icon for $7 or both for $10. So, the total price with customization would be between $22-$25.
If you are anything like me, the most important thing is how much each pouch can hold. So, I put both to the test. I placed my daily planner essentials in each pouch and compared the two. My daily essentials include my 18-month life planner fully decorated, 4 pack of Staedtler pens, sticky notes, and a list pad.
Here is a look at what the carry-all clutch looked like fully filled…
The Erin Condren carry-all clutch fits all of my planner essentials perfectly. I was able to zip the zipper without any straining on it. Plus, there wasn’t any bulging of the fabric. I could fit a few more small accessories if needed, but it may cause the front to have some bulging. Remember, the neoprene fabric stretches t0 allow for extra space.
Now, the zipper pouch…
The zipper pouch had so much extra room after placing my planner essentials in it that I decided to see if my Erin Condren notebook would also fit.
This zipper pouch really amazed me. Even after placing my notebook in it, I still had extra room. I think it is safe to say that it could hold two life planners. There wasn’t any bulging on the front and the zipper closed without any strain at all.
I don’t think you could go wrong with either one of these planner pouches. I have carried the carry-all clutch for over a year and it still looks brand new. It has protected my planner through the rain and everything. I am not sure how the zipper pouch does in those conditions, so I would love for someone to fill us in on that one. So, please share in the comments below. 🙂
I like the fabric of the carry-all clutch, but love the amount of space the zipper pouch provides. I like that the carry-all clutch comes in a lot of fun patterns, but love that the zipper pouch fits more planner essentials.
I would say that the price is about the same because without considering taxes and shipping, there is only a $7 difference. But, if you haven’t purchased from Erin Condren before you get a $10 discount code when you sign up. I don’t push my referral code because I know if you check out any Erin Condren video, Instagram post, facebook post, etc. people are throwing their codes at you. Yes, you get a $10 discount if you go through a referral code, but so does the person whose link you used. I always leave my referral code at the bottom of my videos and the sidebar of my blog. I would love for you to use it, but don’t feel pressured to use it.
I plan to use both pouches. I plan to carry my life planner in my carry-all clutch and my planner essentials in my zipper pouch. I can’t wait to break them both in during the 2016-2017 school year.
