There are certain projects that I plan on completing while I am at home this summer. Some of them are extremely small and some of them aren’t so small. One the first projects on my list was to reorganize our family files. Here is a look at them before…
This small Iris filing box has been with me a long time. It started out as only mine when I lived alone and slowly moved to become mine and my husband’s, and then everyone’s. But, here is the big kicker… I haven’t changed the file folders since I first made them. For example, look at the bottom right corner. I made this folder when At&T and Cingular Wireless were two different companies. Yeah, I know! It just wasn’t the top thing on my priority list.
Even though I didn’t change the folders, I DID clean them out every year (filing last year’s documents).
So, today, this small little project has become my TOP PRIORITY!!!
I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a set of 50 file folders for $5.97 that contained 4 different color folders: red, blue, green, and yellow.
Then, I came up with the following color categories:
RED – Kristin
GREEN – Nathan
YELLOW – Kids
BLUE – Family
I used my Brother label maker that I purchased from The Container Store to make each folder’s label.
And, here is what our files look like now…
The Before & After
They definitely look at lot better! And, I am sure it will be a lot easier when I am filing bills at the end of the month.
