Welcome to Day 3 of Go Green Week! Today is all about reusable shopping bags. For the past two years, I have wanted to purchase grocery bags that I could reuse every trip. We do reuse the plastic bags, but I still wanted to veer away from them. It has taken me this long to find a set that I LOVE. Until now, everything was either poor quality, too expensive, or just didn’t fit me. I know, how can a reusable bag “fit me.” Well, if I am going to carry the thing in and out of a store, I wanted it to be something cute and something I was proud to carry. Yep, I am even OCD about a grocery bag. Do you feel sorry for my husband yet (insert laughter)?!?!
Enough with the rambling…
About two months ago, when I came up with the idea of “Go Green Week,” I decided to do one last search for the perfect reusable bag and I am glad I did. I ran across the MY ECO 4-in-1 bag set.
This is the coolest set of bags I have ever seen. You get four bags that fold and zip into the biggest bag. And, they actually DO fold into the biggest bag! There is nothing worse than seeing an awesome product, watching an amazing demo on how it REALLY works, then you get it home and it is a complete disaster. NOT this time…
I went to the grocery store, used every bag, came home, my daughter played with them a minute, and I was still about to fold them back into the biggest bag.
And, are you ready for the best part?!?! The bags are labeled with the type of food that goes in each.
The three smaller bags fold and are zipped into the “Groceries and Dry Goods” bag. And, the “Chilled, Cool, and Frozen” bag has an insulated lining and zipper too. Plus, the four bags are made to wedge themselves nicely into your shopping cart.
After my little shopping trip, I think my mom was even impressed with the bags.
Here is a little information written by My Eco about these amazing little handy shoppers.
- Hold the equivalent of 30 plastic grocery bags.
- Easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
- Large comfortable handles.
- Made of recycled yogurt containers.
And, you know who invented these bags? The daughter of the individual that patented the first versions of the plastic grocery bag. I may be crazy, but I thought that was pretty neat. Here is a little information from Kristen Brown.
My father, Gordon Dancy, patented one of the first versions of the plastic grocery bag. His invention helped coin the iconic question “Paper or plastic?”, which changed consumer behavior and revolutionized the grocery bag industry. As a high school student, I trained one of the first grocery stores to ever use plastic bags in my hometown of Middletown, Ohio.
Thirty years later, we are once again in need of behavior change at the supermarket. We now know that both paper and plastic disposable bags harm the environment. The manufacturing process for paper bags is energy-intensive and increases water and air pollution.
My Eco was nice enough to give me $5.00 off my set of bags and they are doing the same for you!
