I am sure by now everyone knows that I am in the process of changing little Derrick’s room from a nursery to a big boy room. Slowly, I am adding different elements and taking away some of his baby accessories (with a little sadness, of course). In case you forgot, here is a look at the storyboard I created for his room.
For his nightstand, I didn’t want to purchase the one that went with his bed. It was expensive (around $200) and it wasn’t exactly what I wanted for his room. I wanted something that had a rustic/vintage feel to it. So, after a little searching, I found the Rast dresser from Ikea for $34.99.
At first glance, you may be wondering why in the heck I purchased this unfinished piece of furniture. And, the answer would be because of the potential I saw in it. Plus, it was a fraction of the price of the Legacy Kids nightstand and it had three drawers.
For about 2 months, it has been sitting in little Derrick’s room looking like this…
I purchased some MinWax in Special Walnut and new knobs from Lowe’s.
I applied two coats of stain to the base and drawers and let it sit outside on my covered porch for 8 hours. Then, reassembled it and added the knobs.
And, here is a look at Derrick’s new nightstand.
Derrick’s lamp is the Better Homes and Gardens task lamp. We purchaed it from Wal-Mart for $24.99.
I love it! You will see shelving go up in the next few weeks that will match this piece.
