We have finally gotten everything unboxed and put away in our new home. And, it feels great! We still have the garage to sort through, but that takes time. Plus, good weather and we certainly haven’t gotten any of that lately.
Now, we are in the process of getting everything organized and putting systems in place that work for our family. You know, every house requires different systems. What worked at our old house doesn’t necessary work at this one.
One of the things we loved about our new house (when we were looking to purchase it) was the nice little closet in our bedroom that I could devote solely to my accessories: purses, scarves, hats, jewelry, luggage, etc.
I tried to utilize every shelf and space to it’s full potential. For a month, I adjusted and readjusted items on the shelves until I had the entire closet perfect for me. I didn’t have to purchase any additional storage, which is great. I was able to use extra storage bins and containers that I wasn’t currently using.
And, now, this is what it looks like…
The white baskets at the top of the closet are the Sterilite Deep Ultra Baskets that come in a set of 6 at Wal-Mart. These are some of my favorite organizing baskets because they arecost effective and good quality. I have used them in several areas in my house.
The metal plates on the front of the baskets are Martha Stewart bookplates from Staples. I always pick up a couple sets when I am in Staples.
You can check out all the details on my jewelry organizer here.
Now, I will take you through each basket. The baskets on the top shelf hold my scarves. The basket on the left is for my infinity scarves and the basket on the right is for my traditional scarves.
At first glance, it looks like my traditional scarves are just thrown in the basket. But, they are actually folded and piled in the basket. I placed the ones I wear the most on the top.
The basket on the second shelf holds my hats and gloves. When I say hats, I am referring to cold weather beanies mostly. I think I have one baseball cap at the bottom of the basket. I usually don’t wear baseball caps.
The last two shelves hold my purses. I have my purses filed in two Thirty One Large Utility Totes.
(from left to right)
I purchased a Thirty-One Fresh Market Thermal last summer when they were on sale. We didn’t own a thermal prior to that moment and I felt we needed one considering my husband is a coach and we have two kiddos. I haven’t used it yet, which is why it is still in the plastic. It has our last name embroidered in gold on the front.
Next, you see my Vera Bradley Get Carried Away Tote in Canterberry Magenta. I use it for most of the short overnight trips we take. Inside the bag, I am storing extra smaller traveling bags that are filed just like my purses.
Beside my Vera tote, you see a quilt, which I purchased for us to use for picnics or vacation outings. I intend on using it as a ground blanket and not as a sleeping blanket. It is a Better Homes and Garden quilt from Wal-Mart.
Through both of our moves, I have made a point to go through all of my accessories and get rid of the ones I didn’t like or would never use. So, everything in this closet gets used and are things that I love.
