Today starts my back to school routine, which also includes my eating routine. I usually eat the same things every day when I am working. I will change up my lunch from time to time, but my breakfast and morning snacks remain constant.
I have eaten the same thing for over 3 years now, but this year my routine had to change. With my new gluten-free lifestyle, I had to choose alternative choices for everything. Before, my meals centered around wheat-filled foods and that is now a no-no.
Thankfully, I have been able to choose almost the same foods, but the gluten-free options. And, I wanted to share them with you. I plan on sharing dinner menus and recipes in future posts.
I am not a big breakfast fan. Well, let me rephrase that. I love breakfast, but I can’t eat it first thing in the morning. I need some time to wake up before I eat a big meal. So, in the mornings before work, I usually have a cup (or two) of coffee and a Luna protein bar. You can find these in the medication section and down the weight loss aisle in your local grocery store.
My prep period is around 9:45 this year, so I usually try to have a mid-morning snack to hold myself over until lunch. I like to have some Yoplait Greek 100 Calories yogurt. So far, I am really liking the strawberry, strawberry banana, and mixed berry flavors.
Sometimes, I will bring leftovers for lunch. But, leftovers are very rare in my household. We tend to cook just enough for dinner. So, I usually bring one of the two options below:
Amy’s Gluten Free Burrito with tortilla chips
Peanut butter sandwich and tortilla chips.
I have learned that gluten-free bread is usually located in the frozen foods section at the grocery store. This Rudi’s multigrain bread is amazing! I was hesitant at first, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste.
Sometimes, I don’t eat an afternoon snack. Then, other times, I am starving by 3:00 pm. When I do need a little snack, I eat a Nature Valley protein bar. They are yummy and gluten free.
So, what are some of your favorite foods to eat during the day?
