About a year ago, I gave y’all a glimpse of how I organize my mail at home. This included incoming and outgoing mail. It has changed a tad bit due to moving and I wanted to share it with y’all.
Originally, I had my heart set on purchasing an Ikea Kvissle wall system for my mail area, but I couldn’t justify spending the same amount on shipping as I was on the price of the item. The item cost $14.99 and the shipping was approximately the same amount.
This was the Deflecto Unbreakable 3 Pocket Wall File from Staples. Even after purchasing this wall file, I still wanted the Ikea one. The Kvissle was exactly what I wanted. It was white, made of metal, and had 5 pockets. The Deflecto only had three pockets. But, I made it work.
Fast forward to our move last August and the “unbreakable” Deflecto wall file somehow broke in the process of moving.
I went several months without one until we moved into the house we bought. It just so happened, my mom bought the kids an Ikea PS cabinet locker for their playroom area for their tv, which meant it was the perfect time to purchase the Kvissle I had been wanting. I could just add it to her order for little or no extra shipping charge.
We still use the Pottery Barn Bedford Two-Drawer Organizer in the same manner we did in our last house.
- Top – Holding area for incoming mail that I need to look at later.
- Top (Bill) Drawer – Bills that will get paid when pay day arrives.
- Bottom (Call) Drawer – If I receive something that requires a phone call, I place it in this drawer.
Anything that we do not need gets shredded and thrown in the trash.
I purchased a set of decorative file folders from Target to use for my new wall file. They add a bit of personality to the area and match my area of the office perfectly.
This wall system works as a holding area for items that need to be permanently placed in other places, but haven’t been moved yet due to time. In a nutshell, it keeps everything separated and off the desk, kitchen counter, or floor.
Our 5 pockets are labeled accordingly:
- To File – Mainly bills and medical EOBs
I purchased an Ikea Antonius tray for the mailing drawer in our desk to separate our mailing supplies better. Now, we have separate compartments for envelopes, our extra checkbooks, my business cards, stickers, stamps, labels, and family mailing stamp.
