Today, I thought I would share my back to school teacher supplies haul with you guys. The school district where I work is so nice that they give me $100 to spend in my classroom each year. I teach 7th grade keyboarding, so $100 goes a long way for me.
At the end of a school year, I always make a list of the items that I need or want for the next school year. My list always includes the normal pens, pencils, glue, etc., but this year, I had one big item that I wanted to purchase and that was a pencil sharpener. I am not talking about a small dollar pencil sharpener, but an electric one that I will have for a long time. Plus, one of my fellow teachers had one and that thing was awesome. The pencil sharpener was going to cost roughly $30, so I knew I had about $70 to work with, which was plenty to cover the other items I needed/wanted.
I started my shopping at Wal-Mart, then hit up The Dollar Tree, and Amazon.
- Sterilite drawer organizer: $8.77
- Elmer’s glue (8 @ $0.50): $4.00
- Colored pencils (6 @ $0.50): $3.00
- Calculator: $6.47
- Expo eraser: $2.47
- Wite-out: $0.97
- Set of BIC black pens: $3.97
- Clipboard: $2.44
- Black plastic folders (3 @ $0.50): $1.50
- Staples: $0.94
- Wall Calendar: $5.96
- Total with tax = $44.22
I had one item on my list that I planned on purchasing at Wal-Mart, but didn’t. Have you looked at the price of binders lately? I am sorry, but I find $4.00 for a plain binder to be a little outrageous.
I looked through the folder and binder aisles several times trying to find a binder that was nice quality, but wouldn’t eat up a lot of my budget. Then, I realized I had several at home just waiting to be used. So, that was some cash that I saved. Woohoo!!!
There were some items I had on my list that I intended on purchasing at Wal-Mart, but I thought the prices were too high. So, I made a separate list to look for at The Dollar Tree. Remember, I was trying to squeeze the most out of my $100.
- Sticky notes (3 sets)
- 16 count of pencils
- Highlighters (3 sets)
- Decorative pencils (3 sets)
- Total with tax = $11.99
Amazon was the last place I shopped and that was because I was comparing prices. I knew I wanted an X-acto pencil sharpener, but I was trying to find the place that had it for the best price. And, Amazon was the winner. I was able to purchase the pencil sharpener and a record book for right at $35. And, at Amazon, with a lot of their items, if you spend $35, you get free shipping.
Side note: I am not a Amazon Prime member!
I do not have the actual items yet. They are in the mail as we speak, so I am sharing the stock pictures of the items.
- X-acto pro heavy-duty electric pencil sharpener: $29.58
- Chevron record book: $6.00
- Total (tax not added to order) = $35.58
I am pretty happy with all of my purchases and I think I did a good job at getting a lot of school necessities within my budget.
