I must say, organizing is something that comes natural to me. But, I understand that not everyone is in that same boat. I honestly feel that it isn’t that people do not want an organized home, office, car, etc., I just think they don’t know where to start. It is just like writing a paper… Once you get the introduction done, it is smooth sailing from there.
So, over the last couple of weeks, I have thought about the advice I would give to anyone who wants to take the organizing and decluttering plunge. And, I came up with 5 little tips for you…
I will admit, this is my biggest problem!!! It seems like I can’t stick to this rule, even though I try really hard. I guess it is because I will tackle one project, get to a stopping point (usually I have to wait on my husband to help with something), so I start another project. I do not like to have downtime and when I get my mind set on something, I have to go with it.
But, enough about me and my issues. Lets get back to the list… It is wise to tackle one project at a time. You don’t want to be the individual that takes on ten projects and never finishes one of them. And, sometimes, if you do this, you have made a bigger mess, wasted money, and your valuable time.
This step goes along with step #2. Tackling everything at once usually means that you have attempted to work in more than one space. I would not recommend doing this! Like my blog title, I am a little OCD. : ) When I get something in my head, I think I need to do it right then. But, after all the excitement calms down in my head, I remind myself that I need to work and complete one room at a time. You honestly don’t want your house to be a complete disaster because you are attempting three different rooms at once. And, this is especially true if you are required to work within a budget. My husband and I are both high school teachers, so we have to complete projects as the money allows.
If you are a little OCD, like me, just remember to stop, relax, and… BREATHE!!!
