If you would’ve walked into my house last week, it looked like a complete mess! We had family staying with us and a few things going on, so making sure the house was picked up was at the bottom of the priority list. Hey! It happens. Sometimes there are more important things than making sure every… single… thing is in place.
So, how did I get it all picked up… with help? I created a little game that my daughter kinda likes.
Side note: When you have two small kiddos running around all day, it is hard to keep your home 100% guest-visiting-ready. So, this is a daily task. And, sometimes, it is a twice a day task.
Before sharing my little game, I wanted to show a few pictures of my disaster zone. And, I know this may not seem very messy to some, but it drives my OCD brain nuts.
Scroll with Caution!
My daughter is a HUGE game lover if she wins (insert laughter). She always wants to be first when walking through doors or doing any activity. When playing games, sometimes she even changes the rules to fit her situation. You know, so she can win.
So, I decided to talk to her competitiveness.
Every person has to race around the house and pick up and put up 10 things. As they complete the task, they have to call out the number they are on. Whoever picks up and puts up their 10 items first WINS!!!
Then, we take about a 10 minute break and start the whole process over again.
You could definitely add some small treats or incentives to the mix, but we haven’t had to do that yet. My daughter just hates to lose. So, the shear fact of beating her mommy and daddy is enough of a treat (insert smile).
I know it seems really simple, but it works for us! How do you get your family to help when it comes to straightening up the house?
