Receipts… Receipts… Receipts… Does anyone else have trouble keeping these pesky things under control. They end up in the bottom of my purse, on my kitchen counter, and all over my desk. That is until I found a system that works for me. I have been using this system since I moved into my home in January and it has completely eliminated my receipt clutter.
The hardest part for me was trying to determine what to do with a receipt when I first got home from shopping. Where do I place it? So, I came up with what I call a “holding area” for my receipts.
When I come home, I immediately take all of my receipts out of my purse and place them inside of my receipt file that is hanging above my desk in my office.
The receipts will remain in this file until I have a chance to organize them.
When that time comes, I will take my black accordion file that I think I purchased from Wal-Mart years ago, organize it, and then place the receipts in it that have been sitting in my receipt file folder.
The inside of my receipt accordion file is labeled alphabetically. I sort and store receipts based on the store where I made the purchases. For example, Wal-Mart receipts go in the “W” section and Target receipts go in the “T” section.
Before I place any new receipts in the accordion file, I take all of the current receipts out and decide if I still need to keep them or get rid of them. If I decide I do not need them anymore, they get shredded in my shredder.
This entire process takes me approximately 20 minutes from start to finish and it helps me tremendously. Now, I do not have the receipt clutter and I know where to find everything.
