A couple of weeks ago, I shared a picture on my facebook page and Instagram feed that was pretty vague.
Sometimes, plans do not go as planned. We are experiencing this as we speak. Once again, God is present and letting his presence be known. So, we are going to sit back and enjoy the ride. It is out of our hands!!!
Well, I am here to explain what in the heck I was talking about.
Since July, y’all have heard about us moving. You have gotten an upclose and personal look at our decision making process, moving, and trying to turn a house into a home. Well, the “turning a house into a home” part hasn’t worked out the way we had first anticipated.
We have been renting the house we thought we were going to purchase since August. We closed on our house in Caruthersville at the end of September and we were good to go with the payoff at the end of October.
So, at the beginning of November, we started the whole “house purchasing” process.
Over the course of November, we all attempted to work out a contract that met the needs of both families. It was a back and forth situation for a solid week. Then, the final contract wasn’t signed by the owners within 48 hours, so we didn’t really know where we were going with the situation. After 48 hours, the contract was null and void and a new one would have to be drawn up.
Luckily, this all happened around Thanksgiving. So, we had some time to think about our options and ask for the opinions of our family members. Overall, it ended up being a blessing in disguise. We all felt it was best if Nathan and I looked for our family a new place to call home.
I am sure you have many questions running through your head, just like we did…
But, you put work into the house?
Yes, we did. But, after an analysis of the amount of work the house still needed and how much they were wanting for the house, we just couldn’t do it. We were afraid it would be one issue after another, like it has been since we moved in in August.
It just didn’t make financial sense!
So, we decided to walk away with only spending a little rather than making the purchase because of the amount already spent. In the end, we could’ve been spending a lot more.
We are still in the house until we find a new home to purchase. The owners have agreed to rent to us until that time.
So, what in the world has gone wrong?
It really seems like one thing after another. It started with the whole kids’ bedroom renovations going wrong and having to spend double on that project. That didn’t have anything to do with the house issues, but I wanted to throw that in.
Then, we have dealt with several insect issues. Back in October, we had swarms of wasps coming in our fireplace. We seriously killed approximately 30 in one day. We even had to call pest control. They came out and bombed our entire living room. The owners said they never dealt with wasps coming in the fireplace. I don’t know, but I have a hard time believing the wasps just all of a sudden started coming in once we moved in.
And, then there are the ants… Oh, the ants!!! They are everywhere. There hasn’t been a pest contract on the house since it was built. We did have a pest control company come and check for termites and there aren’t any. So, I am not sure if a pest control contract would help, but I DON’T DO BUGS!!! They have been in my bathtub, all over the kitchen floor, in the living room, and the list goes on. My husband has sprayed powerful killer many times and they still come back. Once again, the owners said they haven’t dealt with ant issues.
Then, there is a huge hole in the master bathtub under the faucet, which we think could cause water damage.
The deck needs major repairs, if not rebuilt.
and, the list goes on…
We were unaware of these things before we moved in. So, knowing what we know now, we can’t pay the large amount they are wanting, plus repair the issues that need fixed.
So, where does that leave us?
Since Thanksgiving, Nathan and I have been house hunting! We have looked at so many houses that my daughter made the statement yesterday, “So, are we looking at houses today, mom?”
There are some things that we are looking for in a house. Anything beyond these things would be a bonus.
- extra room or space for an office
- nice size closets
- fenced in backyard
- nice area
- nice size laundry room
- nice kitchen appliances
Right now, we have made an offer on a house and we are in the process of seeing if the negotiation works out. Fingers crossed!
I will keep y’all updated on our search. And, thank you for following us on this journey. We have hit a bumpy patch, but we know it will all work out in the end.
