It isn’t a secret that I have trouble keeping my spices in order in my pantry. It was an issue at my old home and now, it is an issue at my new one too. I have good intentions. I place them together either on a shelf or in a basket and, then, who knows what happens from that point forward.
I have always had an issue with the size and shapes of my spice containers. What do I mean? They do not come in identical containers. So, they do not look nice and orderly in their original containers sitting on my shelf. I know they are different brands and some spices do not require as much as others, but remember, I have issues with order and sequence.
So, after putting this task off for several years, I have decided to address it.
For this task, I used the following items:
1. RAJTAN Spice Jars from Ikea
2. Provo Crafts Vinyl in white (can be purchased here)
3. 2″ Scallop Circle Craft Lever Punch from Hobby Lobby
4. Ashley Tiered Shelf Organizer in Venetician Bronze c/o Spectrum
My plan for the beginning of 2015 is to focus on my pantry. I have never really had it under control. I organize it and then, we get lazy. And, it is probably because items do not have a designated “home.” So, my spice organization is going to jump start this process.
My spices and baking goods sit together on one shelf. Or, they are meant to.
Yep! I literally threw all of my spices in one basket. What was I thinking? That looks like a complete mess.
So, I pulled everything off the shelf, laid some MacBeth shelf adhesive in Rugby Chevron (I plan to cover every pantry shelf in this liner) and washed my new spice containers.
Next, using my 2″ punch and white vinyl, I created labels for the tops of the jar lids.
Then, I placed each scalloped circle on a jar and labeled it with the name of the spice (using my label maker).
Then, I couldn’t forget to place the expiration dates on each spice. To label each jar, I used Avery Color Coding Labels. I wrote the date on a dot with a permanent marker and placed it on the bottom of the jar.
Spectrum was kind enough to send me this awesome tiered shelf to use anywhere in my house. I decided my spices would be the perfect use for this little gem. So, when I open my pantry, I don’t have to strain my eye to find what I am looking for.
And, a look at the newly organized shelf in my pantry.
