A week ago, I dropped the ball by telling you guys I had switched back to an Erin Condren life planner. Back in December when I shared my excitement over my new Filofax for 2015, I really thought I had found the perfect planner for me.
And, then, I started using it and I realized we were not compatible. I knew it pretty quickly, but still kept using it through January and February trying to force myself to love it. Then, at the end of February, I finally decided it was time to switch back to the planner I have loved for several years now.
So, why did I decided to make the switch back? I have a few reasons and I had to share them with you guys.
1. Less Cumbersome
When I started using my Filofax, I loved the way I had it set up, but I started to find that it was too bulky. Even with the bare essentials in it, it was still hard for me to manage. Every time I needed to get to something, I felt I had to sort through a bunch of unnecessary pieces to find what I was looking for.
Sometimes, simple is better and that rings true in this case. I found myself getting very frustrated because it was just too much for me. I am a simple planner! If I want to find something, I do not want to have to sort through the thick casing and extras to find it.
2. Ease of Use
First thing, my Filofax would not lay flat on a table. I did not want to bend it a lot because that bad boy wasn’t cheap. I thought the more I opened and closed it, the more flexible it would become, but that was definitely not the case.
Every time I went to write in it, the cover would hit me in the wrist and I would literally have to lay my arm on it. It got to where I had to take out the planner pages to write on them and then place them back in, which got annoying after awhile.
I love that I can take half of the Erin Condren life planner and flip it underneath the other side to write. It makes it so easy to write by the coil.
There is a lot of difference between the size of the life planner and the Filofax. I didn’t think it would bother me, but it did.
I carry a nice size work bag and purse in the first place, but the heavy Filofax added a lot of extra weight to both. I had no idea how much they weighed until I held one in my hands. And, my Filofax wasn’t full of any extras either.
The life planner holds the same amount of planner pages and information, but it isn’t nearly as heavy. I do not even notice a difference in the weight of my purse and/or work bag.
Erin Condren life planners come with paper that is a little bit thicker than normal paper. So, when you use pens on the pages, they do not bleed through. Or, I should say the pens that I use do not bleed through. I use the Staedtler triplus fineliner pens and they are amazing!

At the moment, I do have cardstock in my Filofax, which is great for writing, but it adds more bulk than the paper that Erin Condren uses.
This Southern chick likes to personalize anything and everything, and my planner is no exception. Now, I know that a Filofax gives you the flexibility to adds pages, take pages out, etc., but the idea of having my name on the front of the planner is awesome. And, with the Erin Condren life planner, I get to do just that.
If my life planner was sitting beside 3 others, you would know which one was mine because my name is on the front. Not true with my Filofax, unless I have some sort of charm or way of telling the difference on the front.
In a nutshell, I like that my name is on the cover of the life planner!
6. All of the Accessories
Have you seen all of the adorable goodies you can purchase through Erin Condren to go with your planner? Caution! I want everything.
I know you can purchase many things from many different places for your Filofax, but I just like that I can shop for accessories at the same place I purchase my planner. Plus, the designs are adorable! Have I mentioned I love bright colors and polka dots?
